Exeter University III 2
Tavistock 3
TAVISTOCK squash team picked up valuable away points and if they are to improve on their current mid-table position in division 4, it is matches like these they need to win.
The evening started well for Tavistock with both Peter Walshe at no 5, and no 4 Bob Cowen winning their first games. But they lost the next two as they relaxed and the opponents fought for every point. Bob and Pete used their greater experience and won their fourth games with better shot selection. Both then won the deciding fifth comfortably.
Captain Stewart Cox faced a determined opponent at no 3 and looked to be about to settle the match when 2-1 ahead and holding match point. His opponent held on, finally to take the game then the match.
No 2, Tim Walshe played well and controlled the match. An impressive 3-0 win settled the evening with a Tavistock victory.
With two regular players missing, Steve Tripp stood in at no 1, despite carrying an injury and lacking match practice. These combined to see Steve suffer his quickest 0-3 loss for a long time.
A good 16-10 win for Tavistock which arrested a slide down the table after their previous losses away to Westcountry and Broadmeadow.
