A BABY seagull has been found struggling outside of Tavistock Museum and is being cared for by local people.

The bird, who is currently unable to fly, was found in the road by staff at the museum yesterday afternoon (August 1).

Since then concerned staff members have contacted the RSPCA and have been warning those passing by in cars to be cautious.

’The young gull is unable to fly so is at risk of being run over,’ said Rod Martin of Tavistock Museum.

Local historian Simon Dell said that the young bird was not injured but was fledging — meaning it was still developing wing feathers large enough for flight.

He said: ’Many of you might be aware that there is a seagull in Guildhall Square walking about. Please leave it well alone. It is a fledgling and cannot yet fly. It came from a nest in Deer Park a few days ago. Its parents are feeding it. Please ignore it. Do not feed it. Do not catch it and relocate it because it will starve without its parents. It is not injured and will fly away soon.’
