TWO prominent West Devon politicians this week gave their support to an organisation which supports adults with learning difficulties in the Tavistock area.

ROC Welcome Tavistock provides social opportunities for its members and has had some great success stories — supporting members to develop within their community and within themselves.

An exciting launch of ROC Welcome Tavistock takes place on March 27 for people and businesses to find out how they can support the club. This is with the generous support of the Bedford Hotel and sponsors Chilcotts Solicitors and Francis Clark LLP.

Geoffrey Cox MP?said: 'ROC's work for people with learning disabilities is incredibly important to local communities in the Tavistock area. I strongly support them. I very much hope as many people as possible will come along to the launch.'

Lord Burnett, former Gateway Club president, said: 'ROC embraces the talents and abilities of all its members. It encourages their confidence and enriches their lives, as well as the lives of everyone associated with them. I am delighted to support their excellent work.'

One relatively new member is Sheryl, who has been coming for about six months. She is one of the more able members, travelling independently into town by bus.

A spokesperson for ROC Welcome said: 'She tells the club manager that she gains a great deal from the club — Sheryl attends both daytime and evening activities — and is a most enthusiastic individual. Through the club, she has made a new set of friends who also meet together outside the parameters of the club, a significant development.'

Sheryl and all the members are supported at ROC Welcome Tavistock to discover their independence and make choices about their lifestyle.
