TAVISTOCK and District Duke of Edinburgh's award committee held its annual award ceremony in the presence of the West Devon mayor Cllr Donald Horn and mayoress Mary Horn last Wednesday.

Additionally the Tavistock town mayor Cllr Philip Saunders was represented by deputy mayor Cllr Anne Johnson, as the mayor attended with another hat as the chair of the award committee with mayoress Dr Hilary Saunders.

The young adults were from 2312 squadron Air Training Corps who were represented by the Plymouth & Cornwall Wings D of E officer, Sqn Ldr Phil Newcombe, Tavistock's Open Group led by Bob Cawse and represented on the night by Matt Mitcheson and Tavistock College represented by John Collacott.

Awards of all levels gold, silver and bronze were presented to the participants by the Devon County D of E officer Simon Gillard.

The audience were addressed by Dr David Hutchins, who undertook his award at Kelly College for his bronze and silver levels and with Bob's Open Group for his gold completion.

David's inspirational talk gave all the confidence to go for gold, as it is not a race to complete in the shortest time but to achieve all before the age of 25.
