CRELAKE Barracks, Tavistock was the scene for 2312 Squadron?s open evening and award parade recently.

Sixty parents and friends viewed the activities on offer at the unit.

The cadets have had a busy year taking part in many sports, including shooting, gliding, model building, projects, camps, kayaking, climbing and caving.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme goes from strength to strength within the squadron, with members completing a gold expedition in the Lake District, a silver one in canoes on the Exeter canal and a bronze one on the cycle paths in Devon.

Flt Lt Phil Newcombe thanked all the staff for all their hard work and in particular the Tavistock and District Outdoor Education Forum for their support in running the kayaking.

Phil presented eight leading cadet and six senior cadet certificates.

Cadets Andy Harris and James Thomas were promoted to corporal with Daniel Gayler and John Gilbert promoted to sergeant.

Trophy winners were: best young cadet, Annabel Turner; Laing Shooting Trophy, James Thomas; Crook Drill Trophy, Cpl Stuart Ross; Sanders Cup for attendance, Cdt Tom Slack; Endeavour award, Cdt Kate Boyce; Venture Adventure award, Flt Sgt David Johnson; best NCO, Sgt John Gilbert; best cadet, Cdt Hannah Smith.
