IF YOU know of someone who works tirelessly for the community on a voluntary basis in Okehampton or its surrounding area, Okehampton Rotary Club wants to hear from you.

The club is seeking nominations for its Vocational Award which will be presented to the person considered to have made a significant contribution locally to the welfare and happiness of others on a voluntary basis in addition to their regular employment.

A description of the degree of effort involved and the direction in which the contribution has been made is also required.

Nominations will be treated as confidential and should be in by the end of April.

The award came into being several years ago and many people are nominated each year. In 1999 it was won by Okehampton trader Donald Rooke for his efforts in making sure Okehampton has beautiful Christmas lights every year.

'We hope by recognising the work people do for the community it encourages others to do it as well,' said Rotary member Robert Ray.

Send your nominations to Robert Humphry, Bridge House, Okehampton.
