IN the run-up to Autism Awareness Day on April 2, a Tavistock group set up to help women with Asperger's Syndrome has used the opportunity to let people of the town know of its existence.
TAD WAVE (Tavistock and District Women with Asperger's Voice Exchange) is a local self-help group formed by women with AS, a form of Austistic Spectrum Condition.
The group wants to let residents from the town and surrounding areas know that it exists, especially with Austism Awareness Day fast approaching — drawing AS into the public eye.
A spokesperson of the group said: 'Many women with AS struggle for years before getting a diagnosis and even when we do eventually get one, most of the support available is aimed at children not adults.
'Support and understanding is so important that a local self-help group for women with AS has been formed by women with AS and enables us to meet and share our experiences and solutions.'
