THE Ten Tors Orchestra Christmas concert is at St Eustachius Church, Tavistock on Saturday December 22, 7.30pm.
As in previous years the Ten Tors choir will join the orchestra and audience for traditional Christmas Carols.
This year's programme includes the premiere of a new work by Clive Jenkins — The Heart of Dartmoor Overture.
This exciting piece is full of lovely tunes inspired by our Dartmoor landscapes.
The soloist for the concert is a brilliant young tenor, Andrew Kennedy.
Andrew has already established a reputation for his outstanding interpretation of English Song.
For this concert he will sing Gerald Finzi's Dies Natalis. This work for string orchestra and solo voice is a Finzi masterpiece — passionate, tuneful and moving — based on the Christ child's sublime journey to Earth heralded by angels.
Andrew will also join the choir and orchestra to perform excerpts from Handel's Messiah.
Ten Tors Orchestra Conductor, Simon Ible said: 'The Ten Tors Orchestra gave its very first concert in December 1998 at The Wharf.
Last year the audience demand was such that we were forced to move to the larger venue of St Eustachius.
'All I can say is book early because even last year we ran out of seats. This is our grand finale of 2001 — but plans are well in hand for our 2002 Spring Series.'
