THE final of cricket?s West Devon Cup is being held this Friday, July 16, at Tavistock Cricket Club starting at 6pm.
Finalists this year are Lewdown and Bridestowe. Lewdown put out defending champions Tavistock in their semi-final while Bridestowe defeated Buckland.
This promises to be a tight contest between two evenly matched teams. The DCUS are supplying two independent umpires in the form of Graham Curson and Terry Kingscott.
Chairman of the West Devon Cup John Gauler hopes to see a large crowd to enjoy West Devon?s only cricket competition.
Secretary Richard Tidball says: ?Times have been hard in the past few years, but with sponsorship this year from Atlas International things are looking better. Hopefully, next year some of the teams who didn?t play this year will enter.?
The late Horace Lancaster donated the trophy which has been played for in the area since the early 1970s.
Now, Stuart Munday, who recently turned 60 but still turns his arm over for Tavistock Seconds, has stepped in to sponsor the competition.
The Plympton-based businessman is backing the competition through his company, Atlas International, which specialises in freehold Spanish properties.
