FOLLOWING the successful Devon Challenge, Tavistock were asked to set out one of the courses for this year's National Field Archery Championships at Bovey Tracey.

Tavistock were only too pleased to help out, assisted by Elmtree, Ashcombe and Brixham Archers who had minor roles.

There was considerable success for some of Tavistock's Archers. Ashley Cackett, 13, became the club's first ever junior national champion by winning the U16 boys' compound unlimited section with a score of 1,298.

Also, keeping it in the family, mother Sandi Cackett came third in the ladies' freestyle section with a score of 950. Mike Charlesworth and Lez James ended up with top ten finishes in the men's freestyle and compound unlimited sections respectively.

It was a successful weekend for one of the country's most successful archery clubs.
