DJM U18s Cambridge
Tavistock CFC U18s 2
Saltash U18s 1
THE home team, who had lost the away match 4-2 before Christmas, started much the stronger being first to every ball and challenging with a newly found commitment and vigour. This led to Tavistock scoring a well worked goal through Joel Blatchford at the back to Dean Southcott in midfield and eventually to Andre Rodukov to slot the ball past the onrushing keeper. After conceding Saltash started to play some of their football in the Tavistock half but were kept at bay ably by the defence and in particular man of the match Matt White.
However with five minutes to go to half time Tavistock gave away a soft goal when the opposition striker was given too much time and he slotted home from the six yard line to blast it past the keeper — the only real blemish on Jamie Montgomery and his defences otherwise excellent game.
The score remained 1-1 until half time.
The second half started with Tavistock in control and creating all the chances but unable to convert one of them. Sam Turner and Ben Pridham endeavoured in attack while Jake Case had a strong game at the back. In midfield Jamie Court and Chris Hoar negated the majority of the Saltash attacks and those which did get through were parried by Montgomery, White Scott Doidge and Blatchford.
Saltash miss a penalty but one awarded to Tavistock saw captain Josh Robins score to give his side the lead. The away team were desperate to hold on to their 100% winning record this season in the last five minutes it was 'all hands to the pump' for Tavistock but they held on to win for the first time ever against the Ashes!
