A NEW initiative supporting artists and craftspeople working in the Tamar Valley has been launched with the announcement of a special week of open studios for the area this autumn.
The event will be part of the new ?Drawn to the Valley? arts initiative organised by the Tamar Valley Marketing Project.
The famous artist, JMW Turner, was one of the first to be drawn to the area to work, and his painting ?Crossing the Brook?, is the best known of the Tamar Valley sketches he made during his tours of the West Country in 1811 to 1814.
The outstanding scenery of the valley is still inspiring people. Lisa Stanzl, of the Tamar Valley Marketing Project, said a group of local artists and craftspeople came up with the idea of a week of open studio events to celebrate the wealth of artistic talent working in the valley.
She said: ?The wider community is often unaware of the large number of artists working here. The open studios will be part of a series of art exhibitions and craft fairs we are planning.?
Artists and craftspeople who are interested in taking part in the open studios week from September 4 to 12 are invited to contact the Tamar Valley marketing office at Kilworthy Park, Tavistock, for more information and an application pack on 01822 813622 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
