POLICE are investigating a suspected arson attack at Liftondown on Saturday morning which severely damaged a disused petrol station. Two crews from Tavistock and two from Launceston attended the scene at the Lifton Park Service Station at around 5.15am. Devon Fire and Rescue Services were alerted to the blaze by a member of the public and it was well alight when crews arrived. Six sets of breathing apparatus, two hosereels and two cooling jets were used. There were fears the petrol tanks at the garage were still flammable enough to ignite and explode. The site, on the old A30, has been unused for some months. If anyone has information as to how the fire may have started, they are being asked to call DC Maguire at Okehampton Police Station on 087052 777444. Police would prefer to speak to witnesses ?in person? but information about a crime can be reported confidentially via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
