TAVISTOCK ladies' hockey team on Saturday played a friendly against Exeter 3rds. It opened with excellent passing skills between Susannah Boulle, Laura Stapleton and Emma White.
Tavistock had clear space to play the ball into and Sue Gawman was quick to seize any opportunity and drive into the D.
Fiona Dunn had a good game in defence and due to strong midfield play was able to bring the ball up and at times take a strike at goal.
Laura Armstrong and Lisa Butler supported each other on the left and Butler, Boulle, Stapleton and Claire Jackson played the ball around each other much to the frustration of the opposition. Gawman gave some good strikes into the D.
Sandra Collar pushed up through midfield and working with Boulle and Butler fed the ball out to Stapleton who struck a ball into the D for Armstrong to slot past the keeper.
The only threat from the opposition came from a lucky break, but new keeper Jemma Hunt had instant reaction and cleared the ball with confidence.
The second half saw a battling Tavistock who did come under some pressure in the D. Cool heads and early calls resulted in Tavistock clearing the ball and Sally Kilpatrick had some good runs up the pitch.
The midfield play was perfectly executed through 'triangular' play and Jackson, White and Gawman had strong runs up the pitch. With only minutes to go, Hunt cleared a high ball aiming for the back of the net.
The final score was 1-0 to Tavistock. This week Tavistock are at home to St Agnes 12.30pm with their first league match.
