Express cup Oakwood 1 Okehampton Seconds 3 Okehampton were drawn away to a side which is a league higher in the Express Cup ? the cup in which they lost in the semi-final last season. Okehampton, pictured above, took a while to settle, and they had to withstand some early pressure but with new goalkeeper Harry Geering looking very solid, the team soon started to gel and play good football. A good passage of play in the tenth minute left Danny Maddox on the edge of the box to strike a great shot that cannoned back off of the bar. Okehampton followed this up with four good opportunities in the next 20 minutes, all of which fell to Darren Prouse, who unfortunately failed to convert any of them. Okehampton had to wait until the 31st minute before they opened their account with good work from Paul Yip and Ollie Bedford whose final ball was met by Ricky Drew slipping the ball past the Oakwood keeper. The last ten minutes of the first half was entertaining end-to-end football with Oakwood missing a penalty and forcing a great save from Geering, while at the other end Okehampton had a goal disallowed and Bedford hit the post. Just two minutes into the half and Daniel Gibbs hit the bar with a great strike. Okehampton?s midfield marshalled by Jamie Atherton, who had an outstanding game, took control for a 20 minute period and chances fell to Prouse, Ditchburn, and Bedford. It was Bedford who scored Okehampton?s second goal after playing a good one two with Prouse. Unfortunately, a tug by Martin Taylor on the shirt of one of the Oakwood strikers gave away a penalty, which was duly despatched. It was not long before Okehampton opened the gap back to two goals when Taylor made amends for the penalty by heading home a Drew corner. The last ten minutes saw Oakwood push forward but the Argyle defence held firm.
