Okehampton Argyle began their pre-season friendlies when they entertained South West Peninsula Premier division side Elburton Villa at Simmons Park.
Both sides found the match a good workout for their squads and Argyle were able to try out 20 players on the day. Newcomers Dave Youlden and Will Hawkins made impressive debuts and Okehampton welcomed back former players Chris Wills, Matt Mortimer and Steve Kinsey. Elburton took the lead on the 25th minute when Lewis Vines tapped home from close in but it was last year's outstanding midfielder Luke Alden who levelled just before the interval when he beat three defenders before firing home a great goal.
Argyle made wholesale changes to their line-up in the second half and took time to settle and on 65 minutes Elburton restored their lead with an unstoppable 25 yard effort from Mark Johnston, but Argyle showed great spirit to come back to level ten minutes from time when captain James Williams curled a superb free kick round the Villa wall from the edge of the box.
Argyle played some impressive football on the day and all 20 members of the squad performed well with many youngsters being given a run out.
