Okehampton Cup semi final Okehampton Argyle 2 Hatherleigh 0 A STRONG wind spoiled any chance of good football being played. It took some time for both sides to adapt to the conditions. Chances were few and far between, with only efforts from Neil Agnew and Mark Williams going close in the first half for Argyle. With the wind at their backs Hatherleigh began to take control in the early part of the second half, but found Argyle?s defence in fine form, with Mike Vernon, Kevin Gill and James Williams having outstanding games. The point when the balance changed to Argyle?s favour came in the 75th minute ? a goalbound header from a Hatherleigh corner was brilliantly saved by Chris Dearing, tipping the ball onto the bar and out for a corner. Moments later at the other end Steve Williams was making a break into the Hatherleigh penalty area. His speed brought an unfair tackle from a Hatherleigh player. A penalty was awarded, and up stepped James Williams to score in the right hand corner. With five minutes left Steve Williams again outpaced the Hatherleigh defence, only this time he finished the job himself, shooting powerfully into the left corner. The other semi-final is between North Tawton and Witheridge, with Witheridge looking for revenge after last week?s East Devon Senior Cup loss to Argyle in that 6-6 classic and penalty shoot-out.
