Carlsberg South West Peninsula division one East
Okehampton Argyle 1
Appledore 6
ARGYLE were disappointed with this result after having lead for most of the first half against a good side who early on looked a similar standard to Okehampton.
Early exchanges were very even with neither side allowing the opposition any time to dwell on the ball, but after 11 minutes, good work by Ian Sercombe and Rob Clarke put Darren Prouse in with a chance in the box. He cleverly flicked the ball over an Appledore defender before volleying the ball home to give Argyle the lead.
The game continued with very few chances falling to either side until ten minutes before the break, when Matt Sanders trying to regain possession nudged an Appledore forward inside the box and a penalty was awarded.
Okehampton keeper Saul Scarry did well to get a hand to Richard Hevingham's spot kick, but he could not prevent the visitor's levelling.
Three minutes later, he had no chance as Appledore, now with their tails up, surged forward and Steve Skinner gave them the lead from close range.
Argyle's supporters were hopeful that the second half would see Okehampton, now playing towards the clubhouse end, force themselves back into the match as they have so often done in the past.
However, Appledore cleverly drew Argyle forward and then hit the home side on the break with their fast forwards and raiding mid-field players constantly outnumbering Okehampton's three man back line.
Hevingham and Skinner went on to complete a hat-trick apiece and Argyle's players and supporters went home disappointed.
Despite the score, man of the match for Okehampton was centre-back Graham Soby with several timely tackles and good interceptions.
