Okehampton Argyle 2

University of Exeter 3

OKEHAMPTON Argyle have now gone five games without picking up a point this season, but they were desperately unlucky not to get something from this match against a strong University side.

The first half started off very evenly with both sides stringing together some useful moves, but on 16 minutes, a deep cross into the Argyle box from the left found the University's prolific scorer Charlie Clinton completely unmarked and he powered home a great header giving Scarry no chance.

Argyle came back at the students and Chris Wills looked particularly impressive in midfield, but once again, Okehampton were caught by the sucker punch, when on 34 minutes, the students broke down the left and Jon Badrock fired home a powerful drive from the edge of the box.

Three minutes later, it looked all over for Argyle when referee Tony Cloak awarded the students a penalty for a push in the box, but Matt Minett's spot kick was brilliantly saved by Scarry.

Argyle began the second half with much more determination and purpose and began to split the University defence with some fine attacking moves.

When the students did break out, keeper Scarry was in fine form in the Okehampton goal and made several good stops.

On 68 minutes, a lovely flowing midfield move from Argyle ended with a fierce drive from Ed Squire being pushed away for a corner. Iain Sercombe flighted over a beautiful corner kick to Adam Mortimer whose powerful header was touched home by Steve Williams.

Argyle now stormed the University's goal in an attempt to salvage a point and two minutes into injury time, a through ball found Adam Mortimer, who headed it over a defender and ran on to fire home from a narrow angle.

With the home supporters still celebrating, the University immediately broke down field and won a corner. A mix-up in the Argyle defence allowed the students' captain, Jack Allman, to slot home from close range to take all three points to the disbelief of the Simmons Park faithful.
