WEST Devon people are being invited to put their names forward to bring an independent voice to a Borough Council Committee.

The successful candidates will be on the Standards Committee, which promotes and maintains high standards of conduct throughout the Borough, Town and Parish Councils of West Devon.

The committee ? part of the Government?s modernising agenda for local authorities in England ? needs two members of the public, to sit alongside two parish councillors and three West Devon Borough Councillors.

Applicants for the two public posts should be totally independent and impartial. They must not be a relative or close friend of any councillor or officer of the council or have been an officer or councillor within the last five years.

The Standards Committee also advises the council on the Code of Conduct for every borough, town and parish councillor in West Devon.

It?s a voluntary post and there will be a minimum of four meetings a year. Training will be given and reasonable allowances paid.
