I AM pleased to read (Times, January 31) that West Devon is looking at car parking charges within the borough. They are far too high.

However, are they really necessary?  Our daughter lives near Daventry in Northamptonshire and visiting her is a pleasure since there are no charges at all in Daventry which is a town roughly the size of Okehampton and Tavistock together. One can always park and there are several car parks around the town.

I suggest West Devon have a look to see what can be done elsewhere. If others do not need to charge neither do they.
