AN APPLICATION to build a watersports base at Weir Quay has been withdrawn, following difficulties over a legal agreement.

Weir Quay Community Watersports Hub Club's project would have seen a boatpark and boatshed, engine store and associated works built on land adjacent to South Tamar Mine. But the conditional planning consent could not be granted because not all the interested parties had signed a Section 106 agreement, relinquishing use of the existing boat park.

Hub Club secretary Mike Street said:?'We were faced with a definite refusal of planning permission and while we had grounds to appeal we didn't want to go down that route. We felt it was better to withdraw the application and re-submit, with a revised draft 106, which we hope will be more acceptable to the council.

'The main intention is a re-submission means the application can go before the committee, giving the members the opportunity to discuss it in detail.'
