THE first ever Bere Apple Fest is takes place in the Tamar Valley this weekend when the huge array of local apple varieties and their uses will be celebrated.
The Apple Fest is at Bere Ferrers between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday and will provide an opportunity to buy local apples with weird and wonderful names as Pig Snout and Queenie, plus giving local growers a market for their produce.
Visitors will also be able to see apples being turned into juice using a newly acquired press and crusher operated by Tamar Valley Orchard volunteers — bring a container to take some home!
The event, supported by Tamar Valley Service, is free, although sellers need to pre-book space by calling 01822 841309.
l Eggesford Gardens, near Chulmleigh, is also celebrating harvest time with an apple and cider fair this weekend.
