THE SEARCH is on to find a popular book which has gone missing from The Museum of Dartmoor Life in Okehampton.

The book is the first volume in a set of three entitled 'Traditions, Legends, Superstitions and Sketches of Devonshire' by Mrs Bray.

Published in London in 1838 by John Murray, the book is bound in green cloth and leather with a gold spine.

Museum curator Maurie Webber said the book had disappeared within the last couple of months and it was quite rare and valuable.

'The set is incomplete without volume one and that's why it is all the more important we get it back,' she said.

The Museum of Dartmoor Life, which opened its doors free during June for the Queen's Golden Jubilee, is continuing to make no charge for entry but all contributions towards maintenance will be greatly received.
