A MAN from Bere Alston is appealing for a gentleman and woman to come forward after they helped him when he suffered a minor heart attack.
On Saturday, October 10, Andrew Hurford and his wife Nic spent the evening at the Tavy Club in Tavistock, to celebrate their second wedding anniversary.
They left the club and got into a taxi at around midnight and at Lumburn Bends, just outside of Tavistock, Andrew asked the taxi driver to pull over.
Andrew said: ‘I went over to the hedge and was sick. I felt very bad and then collapsed and hit the road. That’s all I remember until I came around in hospital.’
Nic said: ‘As we waited for an ambulance a woman pulled over in her car and gave Andrew CPR.
‘A bloke, who we think works for Tavistock’s Tesco branch, also stopped to help. He was medically trained.
‘They couldn’t bring Andrew around. When the ambulance arrived and they got him in the ambulance, they said they think he had had a minor heart attack.’
Andrew stayed in Derriford Hospital until the following Monday evening and he is now back at home recovering from the incident.
He said: ‘I’m sore on my chest where they did the CPR on me but I’m feeling OK. I have diabetes which I am struggling with at the moment but I’m on the mend.
‘I’d really like to meet and thank the two people who pulled over to help me.
‘I’d also really like to thank Paul, our taxi driver from West Devon Taxis.’
Nic described the woman who pulled over as having short, dark hair with glasses. A man thought to be her husband was with her at the time. The other man who pulled over had a big build and very short hair.
If you were one of the people who helped Andrew and Nic during the incident, please contact the Times office on 01822 613666.
The Times team will then put Andrew and Nic in touch with whoever comes forward.
