THE Old Folk's Rest Room in Tavistock, recently reprieved after a planning application for the site failed, this week issued an urgent appeal for volunteers to enable it to stay open during afternoons.
The current shortage of volunteers means there are enough people to open the facility in the mornings to serve teas and coffees, with sandwiches on Fridays, but it will have to close at midday as there are insufficient people available to ensure the safety of users.
It is hoped volunteers will come forward to enable the committee to reverse its decision to close for the afternoons.
An open meeting held last month was well attended. The new committee chairman is Mrs Yvonne Meneer. The outgoing chairman presented the current position of the tenancy, the future not being secure. Janet Piper was thanked for her hard work over the past 15 months in taking the rest room forward.
Anyone who can offer some time to the rest room should call the secretary on 01822 616048.
