POLICE are appealing for information after a suspected arson attack on a speed camera at Horrabridge last week.

The camera, sited close to the bus bay on the busy Plymouth Road, was ablaze at 1pm on Wednesday, April 14, when a member of the public contacted the emergency services to report the fire.

A hose reel jet and a dry powder extinguisher was used put out the fire.

PC Ian Davis of Tavistock police is asking for anyone with information on the incident to come forward.

He said: 'If there was anyone in the area at the time who saw someone acting suspiciously, or indeed, saw a vehicle parked in the bus bay or nearby please call us.

'There have been other incidents of speed cameras set on fire in the Devon area and this is not the first time it has happened in Horrabridge as a similar incident happened two or three years ago. Whether they are connected we don't know.

'It has to be a deliberate act to set fire to the camera.'

PC Davis said the fire could have easily spread, as there were bushes from a property nearby in Tor Bridge Road and a garage was not that far away.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Davis at Tavistock police station on 0845 2777444, quoting log number JT/10/352.
