DOG owners are again being asked to keep their pets on the lead while on Dartmoor after two sheep were killed last week. The sheep, which belonged to Arthur Cole, from Tavistock, were savaged overnight on April 21 and 22 in the Bickham Lodge and Moorland Links area. Police believe the sheep were killed by dogs. Mr Cole found the sheep on April 22 within 300 yards of each other, with rips to the legs and down their necks. He said: 'It was a brutal death for them and must have been two dogs. They had pulled the wool off the sheep and then went for the flesh. There was a third sheep but she survived. The other two were heavily in-lamb, so I believe that is why they couldn't get away.' PC Graham Callender, the beat manager for the area, confirmed there had been attacks on sheep in the Yelverton area, believed to have been done by dogs, although no one has reported witnessing the savaging. He said: 'We wish to give a general warning to dog owners that where there is livestock they must keep their dogs under control and on a lead.' Anyone with information on the incidents should contact PC Callender at Tavistock police station on 08452 777444.
