I AM attempting to follow the 'footprint' of my late uncle in the South Staffordshire Regiment in World War One, prior to embarkation in August 1915 to France. I know he was posted to Wareham and also saw training in Wool, Lulworth and then finally to Dorchester. He was married in Lamerton in December 1915 to a local girl. There is evidence of a military hospital in Tavistock at the time but were recruits billeted in Tavistock or Lamerton in any great numbers? I ask this because Wareham seems quite distant to Lamerton. Any suggestions of help would be appreciated. Trevor Green Lancaster [email protected]">[email protected]
