AN early bout of spring cleaning by the ladies committee of Tavistock Golf Club has revealed a mystery, in the form of an antique brooch, unearthed at the back of one of their office desk drawers.

Despite enquiries, they have so far been unable to discover the owner of the amethyst and seed pearl brooch, which has been valued at between £170 and £190.

Gloria Westhead, Tavistock Ladies captain, said she assumed the brooch had been found on the golf course, handed in and then forgotten.

She said: 'We have asked most of our senior members if they know anything about the brooch, but have drawn a blank.

'We imagine it has been in the desk for at least 20 years, as it was covered in dust.

'It is a very pretty piece of jewellery and someone, somewhere, just might recognise the description, or remember a member of their family who lost it years ago — it would be lovely to team it up with its owner again.'
