CLAY PIGEON shooter Lawrence Barnes from Tavistock has does it again after bagging another title — this time the South West junior Sport Trap championship.

Lawrence, 18, was in top form at the the competition, which was held at Newnham Park near Plymouth by the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association.

Lawrence, who attended Tavistock College, took the junior title with a score of 82 out of 100 while Tony Mingo won the senior with 93/100 and  AJ Wheeler the veterans with 79/100.

This latest success follows Lawrence's triumph as the English sporting clays 'South West junior champion'.

The South West region includes Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of White, Somerset and Wiltshire.

His father Dave told the Times that perhaps in the future Lawrence could even break into the England squad: 'He has actually beaten England internationals but we don't know how well he is going to do; but there's no pressure and we don't want to put him off. Lawrence is enjoying his shooting and that's how it should be.

'His next competition is the British Grand Prix and World Cup FITASC on September 9 and 10. FITASC is an international form of Sporting Clays and enjoys a following the world over. Many would argue that it is the ultimate challenge in clay target shooting, and a world or European title is the pinnacle of anyone's shooting career.

'We are hoping that he may be noticed by sponsors if he does well. Obviously shooting is an expensive sport and if he did make to the England team he would have his cartridges paid for. But there's no pressure, we just let him enjoy a sport he loves.'
