Tamar A division
Buckland Monarchorum v Yelverton thirds
THE BUCKLAND Monachorum side started the day at the summit of the Tamar A Division after last week's bye and needed a victory after their previous defeat to Milton Abbot two week's ago.
BMCC's captain Tom Rogers lost the toss and was put into bat by opposing skipper Phillips.
Buckland's opening pairing of Paul Tomkies and Gary Osborne have both been enjoying consistently good form so far this season and looked to continue this rich vein with yet another partnership of 150.
Tomkies set upon the opening bowlers with some delicious straight drives to progress the run-rate to above seven-an-over, with Osborne contributing significantly with some neat cuts and pulls for consistent boundaries.
Tomkies (95) eventually succumbed to the wily O'Hanlon just short of his century in the 27th over, with Osborne (61) departing to Rowe just after the 32nd. Geoff Pollard (14) and Mike Pike (17no) then progressed the score neatly to 220 for 7 from 40 overs.
Yelverton were in determined mood and started strongly with a range of boundaries from the opening 10 overs, with Spear (38) and Johns (54) dictating play for long spells.
However, the arrival of Terry Northam (4-40) stemmed the flow and removed both the dangerous Spear and Phillips from the crease.
Steve Mannell (2-19) dismissed Johns and his return to the fine bowling form of previous seasons was an extremely positive sign. Yelverton CC toiled valiantly but ended up short on 183-9.
• With BMCC gaining 19 points they now travel to Lewdown next Saturday for a crunch showdown.
