Carlsberg South Western Peninsula League Saltash 3 Tavistock 0 TAVISTOCK made the journey across the Tamar to Saltash hoping to bring to an end their dismal run of six consecutive league and cup defeats. However another sub-standard display saw them return home pointless. The story of the game, three headers, three goals, three-nil. The alarming propensity of conceding goals from set pieces has become a recurring theme this season and Saturday was no exception. On ten minutes a corner from the left was allowed to travel across the six yard area to be headed home unchallenged. Ten minutes later another left sided corner deep to the far post was again headed home unchallenged. The scoring was completed on 60 minutes when a game of head tennis found the ball once more dispatched into the Tavistock net. Once again Tavistock did not lack commitment; in fact they probably shared possession with the home team. However they lacked any real spark of invention and did not really trouble the home goal. As the game got away from them Tavistock once again displayed their lack of discipline with Ryan Honey seeing red for two reckless challenges. This is a problem which must be addressed by the club as it is fast becoming an embarassment. This was another big disappointment to Tavistock; however the game was put into perspective by the sad news of the untimely death of Saltash manager Tim Halford earlier in the week. His memory was honoured by a minute?s applause prior to the game and local football is the poorer for his passing.
