Devon & Exeter Premier

St Martins 2

THIS game saw a big improvement by Hatherleigh compared with the shambles of their two defeats the previous week.

Changes were made with Simon James returning up front, Michael Cooper coming in at right back, Paul Endacott slotting into the back four and Gary Toop playing in goal.

For much of the first half Hatherleigh played the better football without creating too many chances.

St Martins took the lead from a corner when a player rose unchallenged to power a header into the goal.

Moments later St Martins had the ball in the net again, but an offside flag ruled it out.

James then had a chance to equalise. He beat the keeper to the ball and found himself at a tight shooting angle from where he pulled his shot wide.

The second half was a scrappy affair. Hatherleigh pressed hard but their passing became sloppy.

The second St Martins goal came two minutes from time. Toop saved the initial shot but spilt the ball. With attackers rushing in he tried to kick it away but hooked it into his own net.

This Saturday sees another home fixture versus Willand, kick off 2.30pm.
