ST PAUL's Church in Gulworthy will be enjoying the 'Vicar of Dibley' experience this coming Sunday, when it hosts an 'animal blessing' service similar to the one featured on the popular television series.

The service is being held to mark 'Animal Welfare Sunday', the Sunday nearest to the feast-day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

People of all ages are being warmly encouraged to bring along their pets or farm animals for a blessing in the service, which will begin at 11.15 am.

'It's going to be amazing', said the priest-in-charge of Tavistock and Gulworthy, the Rev Michael Brierley.

'The animals will contribute their own noises in the songs that we sing.'

The service will be led by children from Gulworthy School, together with the new curate of Tavistock and Gulworthy, the Rev Tim Treanor.

Mr Treanor said: 'We share the world with so many other creatures so it will be a great joy to ask God's blessing on them.

'I think we'll be surprised by the range of animals that come along.'

Parishioners are invited to bring a photograph of their treasured animal if it is not possible to bring them to the service.
