HOSTILITY to the planned increase in car park charges is expected to be voiced at the annual general meeting tonight, Thursday of Tavistock Forward.

The town regeneration group is angry about West Devon Borough Council's plan to put 10p on one- and two-hour charges, 20p on the three-hour charge and 70p on the all-day charge.

'People are upset about the charges, the lack of consultation and the fact that most of the money will be absorbed by collecting it,' said chairman John Taylor.

He said the 25% increase would make Tavistock the most expensive small town in Devon for parking and would damage its attempt to compete with Plymouth, where charges had recently been cut.

'We may well decide to ask the council to review the charges again,' he added.

The AGM is at the Ordulph Arms at 7.30.
