ANGELS have descended from the heavens and hidden around Tavistock to bring Christmas joy to anyone who may find them — thanks to a community group.
More than 100 small, knitted angels have been hidden around the town, eagerly awaiting people to find them and take them home in a bid to share the joy of Christmas to the people of Tavistock.
Members of the Tavistock United Reformed Church’s Knit and Natter group have been busy over the last few weeks producing the small treasures, which have been appearing in various locations around the town, waiting to be picked up by passers-by.
The aim is that by sharing these little gifts with others, the joy of Christmas might be shared.
Church secretary Jenny Dennis said: ‘We will be placing the angels around the town and we have no idea who might find them.
‘Some people might place them on their Christmas tree or windowsill — we don’t mind how they are used.
‘Each angel will have a message of joy, just like the angels in the Nativity story — peace and joy for all humanity.’
Suzy Weston, coordinator of the Knit and Natter group, has been delighted with the response from the church.
She said: ‘So many people joined in with the knitting and it was so encouraging to see over a hundred angels in the church last week.
‘We hope that this Christmas will be a time of celebration and an opportunity for us all to find out more about the God of peace and joy.’
The Knit and Natter group meets every Friday morning in the Lower Deck Café of Tavistock United Reformed Church in Russell Street.
