BELSTONE entertained Old Eldonians in a friendly on Saturday at Rew Meadow with Belstone winning by 5 wickets. The visitors batted first and scored slowly at the beginning of the innings against some tight bowling by Pete Gross (8-3-20-0). Hennwood (57) and Griffiths (28) increased the tempo with a steady partnership of 72. Chris Gomersall (8-0-27-3) removed the dangerous Hennwood and dismissed Black and Aspinall for ducks taking 3 wickets in 4 balls. Some late hitting by Radford (36) enabled Old Eldonians to finish on 153/6 after their 40 overs. Belstone?s reply got off to a dreadful start losing 3 wickets in the first 5 overs for 15 runs. Martin Kuhn (30) and Wayne Pearce (55) led the recovery by the home side taking the score to 73 before Kuhn was dismissed. Andrew Paterson (47), in his best innings for Belstone, played some fine shots to ensure a comfortable victory for the home side. Belstone finished on 156/5 with 8 overs to spare. BELSTONE suffered their first loss in the Buckley Cup last Thursday when they were defeated by 7 wickets at home by Yeoford. Belstone lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Wayne Pearce (26) and Phil Woods (27) both retired and, along with Dennis Edwards (13) and Andrew Paterson (17), were the main contributors to Belstone?s total of 119/5. Cleave Collins (4-0-10-1) was the pick of the visitors? bowlers, troubling all the Belstone batsmen. Yeoford were always in control in their pursuit of the home team?s total. Three of the visitors batsmen retired; Andy Coren (25), Murch (25) and Collins (25). The best of Belstone?s bowlers was Rob Sandercock (4-0-18-1). Yeoford comfortably passed Belstone?s total with one over to spare, finishing on 122/3.
