Fragments of Love
by Catherine Louisa McKenzie
CATHERINE Louisa McKenzie is a lady both at ease with, and adept at using, the English language. Assuredly this Tavistock based writer can turn her skilled hands, agile mind and erudite mastery of the language, to numerous writing disciplines penning, regularly, articles, scientific papers, guides, booklets, words for websites plus numerous contributions to manifold other magazines.
A career in the National Health Service plus time devoted to her work as a Reiki Master would probably fill to overflowing the days of most folk, but clearly Catherine does not permit any of this to interfere with her wide ranging commitment to writing, a factor marked vividly now she has extended the scope and range of her literary work; and it is a significant move away from that which she has written previously.
She has, for the first time, published a work of fiction, her novel 'Fragments of Love'.
It is an imaginative, shrewd choice of title for a work which, indeed, is permeated by episodes in which love and other strong emotion dominates but it also has the stark realities of life, danger, intrigue and misery amongst them.
The author creates a fascinating, believable young woman in the central character, Freya Seaton, and further, she is most able in placing the strong minded, but often emotionally vulnerable Freya, in fraught, often dangerous situations. There is a major boost to the plot in that it transports the reader around the world, with Freya going to Australia where she forges for herself a new life with Blake, the man with whom she is in love. Together they earn a living guiding tourists around parts of the Australian Rainforest; there is, though, a return to England — to trauma and to danger.
Catherine Louisa McKenzie has penned an impressive novel; perceptive characterisation, an intriguing plot, plus interesting locations — the essential ingredients of a satisfying read — are all of quality, making this a book which will hold the attention throughout. So a first foray into fiction for the author, but hopefully there will be more to follow.
'Fragments of Love' by Catherine Louisa McKenzie, published by Active Sprite Press — A.S.I.N B0092Q8KLE — priced at £3.35 is available through Amazon Kindle E-Book.
