A WEST Devon woman has set herself a new challenge — just months after completing a charity trek in South Africa. Amy Kitley from Princetown (pictured right) took part in the South African trek after a year of fundraising for Scope, the charity for people with cerebral palsy. Amy raised a grand total of £3,050 by holding several events including a sponsored run, a party, quiz night, market day, a stall at Widecombe Fair, car boot sales and a curry night at Fox Tor Café in Princetown. Amy's new challenge is to raise £1,750 for the Raleigh International organisation in the next ten months. Amy said: 'Raleigh International is a youth charity whose purpose is to facilitate the personal growth and development of young people from all backgrounds and nationalities. 'For most young people, the transition from adolescence to adulthood is managed successfully with the support of friends, family and school. But for some this process is fraught with difficulties and Raleigh international use the money raised to help support these youngsters with counselling, education and direction in life.' Part of the charity challenge will see Amy travelling to Costa Rica for five weeks in May 2009, where she will be aiding an environmental project and helping to rebuild a community. Amy will be paying for her own flights and costs. Amy will be joining around 100 people aged 17-24. She said: 'This is going to be a tough challenge and certainly no holiday, the conditions I will be living in will, at times, be difficult, testing and uncomfortable. 'I will often have to construct my own sleeping accommodation and the projects I will carry out will involve a lot of hard work. I will be staying in very remote parts of the country and will not be there as a tourist! However I am looking forward to it — I love a challenge!' Amy will be holding a stall at Widecombe Fair for car boot items. Anyone who would like to donate unwanted goods for the stall should call her on 07769734481 or 01822 890808 and she will happily come and pick them up. Amy said: 'Local people were very supportive in my last fundraising challenge and I would like to thank everyone.'
