PEOPLE with a passion for music wanting to learn how to play an instrument are being encouraged to take part in Wren Music's latest initiative.

The organisation has launched a series of five Make Music workshops which started on September 30.

The Make Music workshops are open to people who may never have played an instrument before but always wanted to have a go, or if you have played in the past but have taken time out from playing. Experienced musicians are also welcome.

A range of instruments will be provided to try out and use, or participants can bring their own.

As well as music making, developing volunteering skills is an important part of the group.

The Make Music sessions will be led by experienced community musicians David Faulkner and Jon Dyer and will be assisted by volunteer Trevor Munkenbeck.

Wren Music leader David Faulkner said: 'These sessions are great, and we never know who's going to turn up. But we always have a good time playing, making bands and singing.

'There will even be a chance for the group to perform at the Baring–Gould Festival coffee morning on October 25 in the Charter Hall. It's going to be fun, friendly and sometimes noisy! Come and join us.'

The workshops are free thanks to support from Lloyds Bank Foundation and Okehampton United Charity.

They take place in All Saints' Church Hall on October, 14 and 21, running from 10am to noon.
