AN OPEN Day is being held at Tavistock Hospital to thank the league of friends for their hard work and generosity.

From 2pm to 4pm tomorrow (Friday), local people can see what improvements have been made at the hospital. Tours will be run where people can see the theatres, medical wards and minor injuries unit.

Last year the league of friends donated almost £50,000 to build two en-suite bays and a new shower room to ensure the hospital met same sex accommodation requirements.

Dr Edwin Clark, secretary of the Tavistock hospital league of friends, said: 'We are pleased to help the hospital by donating money to buy equipment such as mattresses for beds, food and drink machines, and more recently two en-suite bays and a shower room.'

Steve Collings, matron at Tavistock hospital, which is run by NHS Devon, said the open day was a chance to show the local community how much hard work the league of friends has done for the hospital.

'The mayor of Tavistock and local police will be at the open day and I hope as many people as possible will be able to join us, and of course sample one of our delicious cream teas,' she said.

'We are grateful to our league of friends for all the help they have given our hospital. They have worked really hard with us so we could build the two en-suite bays and shower room, which will benefit patients for years to come.'
