PIGMANIA has overtaken Tavistock, with pigs for sale, a pig related film, pig poems and a pigout.
The pig festival, which lasts until March 31, is the brainchild of Ann Pulsford, having been inspired by resin figures of pigs seen on a visit to Bath.
A collection of pigs has been assembled on the patio of the Wharf by the Friends of the Wharf, thanks to grants from the Devon Community Foundation and the Tavistock and Villages Initiative the Friends of the Wharf. These are on sale to raise funds for the Children's Hospice. Pig masks have been decorated by the Youth Café plus group.
The library will be hosting a series of poetry writing workshops by Vanni Cook, who will also be reading a selection of the current pig poems on Radio Devon tonight (Thursday) between 6pm and 7pm.
The town hall will be holding its medieval banquet on Friday evening. The Wharf café is selling pig biscuits and sweets and on Saturday, February 21 will be showing Babe the Sheep Pig with a free Percy Pig sweet.
The Trout and Tipple pub is also starting its Pigout and Beer Festival this weekend with a range of pig beers including Squeal Ale and some old fashioned pig recipes like Bath chaps.
