THE Okehampton Rotary May Fayre and Duck Race took place on Sunday in Simmons Park ? and was a huge success.
Town Mayor Christine Marsh declared the event open and was presented with a bouquet of flowers. The first duck race set off at 2.15pm in a swiftly flowing river. The ducks made good time followed by the hardy ?duck herds? who managed to keep their feet, and also make sure all the ducks finished.
The winner of the £100 for the first race was Dave Weeks, the second race was won by Kate Dennis and the third by Sue Leech.
The town band, in the absence of the demolished pavilion, played in the grass in the middle of the throng to the delight of all.
This was a real town fayre with the opportunity for local groups to run stalls and raise funds. There were bouncy castles, face painting, skittles, target golf and many other games.
The winner of the grand draw for electrical goods kindly donated by Brian and Murial Hutchings of Telecare was Mrs B Stevens.
The fair gave a great deal of pleasure and made a large amount of money for Rotary local charities.
