Tavistock Ladies 2

Essanians Ladies 2

BOTH sides played second team members in this friendly. Tavistock opened with some lucky breaks through the strong running of Laura Armstrong, Becky Willey and Sue Cork.

Lisa Butler played a major part in interceptions and hit some good strong shots up the pitch. Kath Collar and Sue Hornby worked like Trojans to pick up key players and Becky Hutton was battling on the left in order to look for the space in the D.

Hornby had a terrific game in midfield and played some of her strongest hockey yet this season. Newcomer Nell Trotter made some excellent tackles and marked her opponent out of the game.

The first goal came from a good ball in from Armstrong, which Hutton was able to get on the end of and slip past the keeper.

The quick passes of the opposition through a short corner allowed the score to be equalised.

Tavistock were not deterred and even when Essanians scored another good goal, they were determined to turn the match around.

Tavistock went on the full attack and the opposition could not clear the ball from inside their D. Collar scored the second goal for Tavistock to even the scoreline.

The second half saw Tavistock making all the attacks with numerous short corners awarded to them. Hutton and Cork had numerous shots at goal as did Harland.

The brief time Essanians did break through resulted in a one-on-one but keeper Rebecca Creasy deflected the ball out of the D before the opposition had a chance to strike it.

Steph Mills worked as hard as ever on the right and was able to hit some good balls up the running wing play of Armstrong.

Player of the match: Nell Trotter.

This week Tavistock are away to Essanians at Lux Park with a 4.30pm push back.
