Western Counties
Okehampton 14
Paignton 14
TWO early penalties by Richard Pollitte saw Paignton take the lead in difficult conditions.
Okehampton struck back with a well worked try in the corner by Steve Alford.
Paignton then took advantage of the wind and slope to score and lead 11-5 at half-time.
Okehampton started strongly in the second half with Arnie Searle slotting three penalties after sustained and continued pressure to lead 14-11.
Except for a ten-minute spell resulting in an equalising penalty Okehampton controlled the game and field position. But unforced errors and turnovers at the set-piece at crucial times deprived them of enough clean ball to score again.
The welcome return of Alli Mason at No 8 after a three-week lay-off added some extra zip to the team structure and with a return to normal team training sessions after disruption due to flooded pitches the side should have a return to winning ways.
Exmouth away this weekend on a dry, firm pitch should be an interesting encounter after the convincing win in the first leg. Kick-off at 2.30pm.
