MORE than 200 people and World War Two vehicle enthusiasts visited Tavistock last weekend for the 2014 opening of the town's museum.
The main exhibition for the museum this year is entitled 'The US Americans leaving Tavistock in June 1944 for the D Day Normandy landings'. It has been organised by Peter Gallie, to commemorate the departure of the Americans from Tavistock 70 years ago.
Last year the annual exhibition was to commemorate the arrival of the Americans, also organised by Mr Gallie.
On Sunday people flocked to the museum for the official 2014 season opening, and to witness the seven American vehicles from the Second World War. These were driven by local vehicle enthusiasts, who drove around the town throwing sweets out to the youngsters, just like the Americans did when they arrived to Tavistock in 1943.
