TAVISTOCK Area Support Services are getting ready for their annual charity bonanza — this year it takes place on Saturday, August 30. The event will be held at the Tavistock Pannier Market and monies raised will go to to help local people. Bryan Podmore from the Friends of TASS and the organiser said: 'This year marks the 25th anniversary of the charity bonanza that has, over those years, raised tens of thousands of pounds for individual charities in Tavistock and the surrounding areas, and all of which has been used to help local people. 'The longevity of the bonanza, and support from the local community, speaks volumes in describing the spirit of the people of the Tavistock area when called upon to support others. 'Sadly, at the moment, that support is required more and more. We hope that, following custom, the event will be officially opened by the Mayor of Tavistock.' Mr Podmore said Tavistock Area Support Services worked closely every year with the market reeve and his staff in order to fit in as many local charities as possible. He said it was hoped that the number of charities taking part this year could be increased by one or two. Any charities that might want to take part in the day should contact Bryan Podmore at TASS on 01822 616958.
