Tavistock Ladies 2
Chudleigh Ladies 0
TAVISTOCK Ladies? hockey team played a friendly fixture against Chudleigh, who arrived with only ten players. Tavistock?s Sandra Collar offered to go over to the ?other side? in order to level the teams out.
The match opened with Tavistock making strong attacks on the opposition?s defence. Kath Collar, Susannah Harland and Steph Mills worked hard to allow the ball to stay high in the opposition?s D and create numerous goal scoring opportunities.
Sue Gawman and Louise Bott were tireless in running up and down the pitch and Gawman made some excellent crosses into the D.
Becky Hutton and Laura Armstrong were quick to get in on the action in the attacking area and through their determination were able to allow Tavistock to have several short corners awarded.
The first goal came from an excellent ball in from Gawman, which allowed Emma Bowden to strike it with determination past the keeper.
With heads high Tavistock kept the pressure on and on the odd times the ball crossed the home team?s defensive half it was deflected out by Babs Horton, Fiona Dunn and goalkeeper Rebecca Creasy, who made some excellent saves.
The opposition came back strongly and played a good passing game which, although Tavistock were able to stop through strong tackles from Sue Hornby, Collar and Mills, they were not able to mirror.
The forward line were eager and hungry for more goals and the team felt assured Louise Bott was going to score. On numerous occasions it appeared a one-on-one situation with herself and the goalkeeper.
Becky Hutton was hungry for a goal and it was the ?reverse stick flick?, which Hutton is becoming familiar with, which allowed Tavistock to go into the lead and take the match 2-0.
The team were pleased with this first victory after the Christmas break as it bodes well.
