Crediton Colts 31

Tavistock Colts 5

TAVISTOCK are playing Colts fixtures for the first time in several years. Any player under the age of 19 on September 1 this year is eligible — come and join in the fun.

The first Colts game against Crediton showed Tavistock have an excellent Colts side in the making. Despite many of the players never having played together, the team and individual performances were outstanding.

Crediton opened the scoring with a gift of a try and followed with two more before the interval.

The second half saw one try each with Tavistock unlucky not to score more. Three of Crediton's tries were soft and the final score flattered them.

The front row of Walker, Branfield and Finch stood firm despite this being their first game at this level. Hayward took good lineout ball and Wheatley was commanding in loose play. Bond tackled his heart out in the unaccustomed position of flanker with a second half spell at hooker.

Vince at No 8 showed strength and skill and deserved his try. Gorman at open side flanker was an aggressive thorn in the opposition's side. Wadland at scrum half was involved in everything.

The threequarters looked good in attack and defence with Rowe supplying his centres with plenty of ball. Boreham and Lloyd showed plenty of class at 12 and 13 and put Crediton under pressure.

Bolt and Braithewaite took their few opportunities to gain ground on the wings and Child at full back improved throughout and cleared his lines well. Dumper looked strong in the second half, carrying the ball well.

Training is at 7pm on Wednesdays and the next game is away to Wadebridge on Saturday.
